• cold comfort: disney’s frozen; the snow queen

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving! If you’re looking for something to do with the kiddies over the long holiday weekend, may we suggest a movie or two? Just released on DVD The Snow Queenis , an animated version of the fabled tale by Hans Christian Anderson that demonstrates the power of family (a fitting tribute to the holiday season). In this story, the title character threatens to freeze the entire world in a blanket of ice as she takes a young boy captive. When his sister Gerta sets out to save him, she is faced with a number of patience-testing challenges along the way. Be sure to haveĀ  plenty of popcorn on hand for this edge-of-your-seat story…And if you’ll be heading out to the movie theater, we’re guessing you’ll be checking out Disney’s Frozen, which just so happens to be loosely based on “The Snow Queen.” The addition of Olaf, a dreamer of a snowman who longs for the idea of summer, makes for a fun flick that we’re eager to check out. Of course, it just wouldn’t be a Disney movie without tons of merchandise to go with it. Sure, we were thinking more along the lines of frozen yogurt, snowballs and any other sugary confectioneries, but that would be too obvious! Instead, we’ve got our eyes on some fun toys like the Disney Pull Apart and Talkin’ Olaf who says silly phrases from the movie and can be taken apart and put back together again. And for those who want to don duds inspired by the movie, a snuggly Olaf Knit Hat will keep you covered, while Frozen by Stride Rite Cozy Boots feature a warm, fluffy lining bound to keep you warm wherever you roam.

In a Nutshell: Don’t be left out in the cold. This season’s hottest kid movie ticket has inspired a ton of cool toys and gear.
