Someone once said, “Desperate times call for desperate measures,” and in the case of this 5-day-long-and-going strong heat wave we’re experiencing here in the Northeast, that means finding lots of indoor activities to beat the heat. The challenge for this mom, as is true for many of us at home, is finding something to entertain different-aged kids. Not an easy feat, I tell you, especially when Candyland and coloring has lost its allure. Lucky for me, we were given the opportunity to test out a new craft kit from Peaceable Kingdom: Foil Art Sticker Kit. (Why is it that as soon as you say the word “sticker,” kids come calling? Maybe I’ll have to try that out when I want them to clean their rooms…). [&hellip

Day Two of spring break and the sun has finally reared its head (what kind of spring is this, anyway?). But with a soggy backyard to contend with, playing outdoors had to be postponed. And after my couch cushions found their way onto the floor one too many times for my liking, we decided to break out a new board game. Lucky for me (and my nerves), it was a real crowd-pleaser–and with an 8-year-old and a 4-year-old, that’s no small feat. Peaceable Kingdom’s Stack Up! is aimed at preschool-level game play, but can easily be stepped up a notch for older kids (read: good for mixed-age groups). The premise is simple: build a tower of 12 colorful blocks by landing on the corresponding color [&hellip

Right about now, you’re probably wrapping up (pun intended) your holiday shopping and hunting for anything that might qualify as a stocking stuffer. In my house, that can mean anything from a new toothbrush, to chocolate-covered Santas (can’t have one without the other, you know!). If you’re looking for a something a little more inventive, but just as festive, consider the crowd-pleasing, sugar-free favorite of kids everywhere: stickers, of course. I’m still amazed at just how far these small treats can go. Sure they still give them out at preschool for putting away the blocks at clean-up time, and they’re a must for the potty-training crowd. But even the tough-to-please grade schoolers can still appreciate a cool sticker every now and then. This holiday season, [&hellip

When I was in third grade, my two best friends and I collected stickers. Once a month, one of our moms was detailed to drive us “sticker shopping”: trekking around to the local Hallmark where we could peruse the spinning displays for the latest sticker sheets to add to our growing collection. Our jaunts were nothing to scoff at; we took pride in finding our favorites–for me, anything cats or Muppets–and happily smoothing the new sheets into laminated pages of our homemade sticker binders. Today, I have taken my love of all things adhesive and added it to my parenting stash of rainy day goodies and boredom busters. A steamy, hot summer day and tired of the beach/inflatable pool? A sheet of Peanuts Christmas characters [&hellip

When it comes to playing board games, my 7-year-old can be a sore loser. Blame it on an ultra competitive spirit that’s been cultivated over the years, or maybe it’s just plain bad sportsmanship (I don’t like being last either). Nevertheless, I miss the days of playing games like CandyLand when my daughter was content to land on any edible treat, even if it set her back 10 paces. Instead, there should be more games like the new assortment from Peaceable Kingdom that focuses more on cooperative game playing than who gets to the finish line first. One of the games in the line, Stone Soup, is a great way to encourage team building at a young age. Players must work together to cook a [&hellip
