It’s 2 days before Mother’s Day…have you bought your mom a gift yet? In the spirit of this holiday, we’re highlighting a few last-minute gift ideas that will make her smile (After all, for what kind of a mom blog would we be if we didn’t?). If she’s been dropping hints that her jewelry box could use some updating, look no further than french Maison Van Cleef & Arpels. Their collection of high-end necklaces, pendants, earrings and bracelets makes a sophisticated statement for any occasion. Choose from an assortment of delicate strands, jeweled studs and more, each design more exquisite than the next…
If a new timepiece is more her style, treat her to the time of her life (literally) with a watch from RumbaTime. These lightweight pieces, fashioned from either durable silicone or nylon, are perfect for the mom on the go who wants to look her best without worrying that her jewelry will be damaged. We love the new Sorbet line of mouth-watering colors just in time for the warm weather.
If you’re still at a loss what to buy for your godmother, grandma or that special person who’s always been like a mother to you, Yankee Candle’s new Dream Garden collection is a breath of fresh air. Designed with a linen texture and embroidery accents, this candle line looks like something you’d have found in your grandma’s kitchen as she poured you a glass of homemade lemonade. Choose from Garden Time, Blue Lavender and Sweet Pink fragrances, each of which evoke the sweet smells of springtime. Happy Mother’s Day to all!
Ask any mom what she really wants this Mother’s Day, and her honest answer may prompt a guilt fest. But seriously, why should any parent (dads included) not have some time to themselves every now and then? With all the responsibilities that come with parenting today, it’s no wonder we all don’t crave a little down time…alone. This Mother’s Day, we’re all for giving Mom some well-earned peace and quiet, courtesy of Cloud b’s Mommy’s Dream Time Gift Set. This all-in-one packaged set contains all the essential elements for a rejuvenating day of rest and relaxation: an extra-soft cotton robe, a lavender-scented eye mask (with removable hot and cold gel packs) and a dream journal in which she can put her thoughts. We think it makes for a perfect present that gives Mom permission to unwind and indulge just herself…for a change.
In a Nutshell: Let Mom replenish her spirit with a feel-good gift set that lets her take a minute, and then some.
Ah, Mother’s Day…the early morning wake-up call of kisses and hugs, homemade cards and gifts fashioned from tissue paper and other recycled goods and coupons for “being good all day long”–or as long as they can live to their promises (10 minutes, tops?). While some moms may not admit it, this one will: What I’d really like most for Mother’s Day is…to be left alone. And if that won’t work, then dinner for two would be just lovely (notice how I said “two”?”). While I’m only half-kidding, it’s nice that dads have it easy this year when it comes to making reservations. Thanks to the new app from Savored.com, they don’t even have to talk to a real person if they don’t one to, and can set up dinner plans while waiting for the subway. As long as your guy has an iPhone or Android, he can simply click on this app and experience the beauty of hassle-free reservation making. If you’re feeling guilty about an expensive night out and a babysitter to pay when you come home, consider that Savored.com offers special discounts at up to 400 different restaurants across the country. (Surely, he can find something the two of you will like!). Amazing that all it takes is the touch of a button, and dinner is served. Wish it could be like that the other 6 nights of the week…
In a Nutshell: Dinner reservations for Mother’s Day? Yup, there’s an app for that: Savored.com puts the “app” in appetite.
Do you have a Mini Me in your house? My almost 8-year-old is (already!) embarrassed to hear people say she looks a bit like me, and yet my preschooler, who’s a dead ringer for my husband, enjoys pretending she’s Mommy. I can’t help but chuckle when she stylishly drapes one of my old silk scarves (now relegated to the dress-up box) across her shoulders, or when she shoves her tootsies into my favorite flats and clomps around the room. I still haven’t given up on my second grader just yet, though. As she slowly starts her descent away from parental influence, I figure maybe I can subtly influence her taste in a few things here and there. Like, for instance, her choice in footwear. Lucky for me, FlipOut Sandals has a new Mommy & Me Matching Flip Flops line that’s hip enough for budding fashionistas. Once you and she decide on a coordinating color (pink, white or black), you can customize your sandals with a bit of bling: sparkly crystal shoe jewelry, from strawberries to sweethearts. And after she’s outgrown that particular shoe size, she can save the jewelry and add it to a new pair. Maybe by then, she’ll admit you know a thing or two about style after all. Or, at the very least, you can fool her into thinking the flip flops were her choice. Parenting….it’s a sneaky job, but someone’s gotta do it.
In a Nutshell: The kids-and-clothes debate. With these flip flops, you can take it one step at a time…literally.
What does your handbag say about you? If you’re a mom, the contents of your purse may reveal more about your day-to-day routine than you’d care to admit: a broken Crayon here, a stray Goldfish there. Let’s face it: As much as we love our kids, it’s nice (and important!) to look and feel like our former selves, right down to our accessories. It’s why we’re thinking the Bucket Bag, from the Bella Tunno Signature Collection Diaper Bags, will be a hit for new moms. Their fashion statement alone is enough to convince us we’re hiding under there, beneath those baby wipes and Cheerios. Besides being attractive, these bags are extremely versatile, featuring removable stroller straps, a wipe-clean exterior and interior and hidden changing pad. We love the monogrammed accent–a perfect touch that proclaims the real you–and that doesn’t scream “Mom” (unless, of course, your name starts with ‘M.’) So if you know a woman who recently ditched her Prada for a pram, treat her to an accessory she’s sure to relish. And it doesn’t hurt to offer to babysit, either.
In a Nutshell: Let the woman in hiding come out! These ultra-hip designer diaper bags will reinvigorate your sense of style, b.k. (before kids), and make a welcome update to your spring wardrobe.
With April already half-over, it makes me realize that May is just around the corner. A busy time in our family, both my daughters have birthdays this month, as does my sister. But of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t remember one of the more popular holidays that month: Mother’s Day, of course. While I’d like to think the day is all about me (ha, ha!), I can’t forget about my own mother and mother-in-law. When I’m on the lookout for gifts, plush is always a fun choice and the more endearing and soft, the better. How can you resist the new assortment of cuddly friends from Fiesta? It’s hard to suppress a smile when receiving the lovable “I Love You” Polka Dot Dogs or the extra cheery Sweater Bears. Ever the faithful companion, these pups are especially playful and particularly plump–and when you’re talking about stuffed animals, that’s a good thing! The adorable teddies come in three varieties, each bearing a different phrase on their sherbet-hued sweaters. I can’t decide which one I like the most…probably “Best Mom” because I aspire to greatness!
In a Nutshell: Not sure how to enhance your basket of spa goodies or that gift certificate to Mom’s favorite restaurant? These plush pals are begging to be taken home to someone who will care for them unconditionally…and if that doesn’t define a mom, I don’t know what does.
