It’s only October, and I’m already seeing signs of dry skin on myself and my daughters. With more frequent hand-washing during cold/flu season, our hands are a bit chapped and rougher than they were just a few months ago. Because my girls have unfortunately inherited my tender Irish complexion, they are more susceptible to winter’s wrath and therefore are slathered with lotions and creams more often than they’d like. Since the Talking Walnut is always on the lookout for products that combat eczema and other irritated skin conditions, we’re always willing to put new skincare to the test. Well, Episencial’s Soothing Cream is just what the doctor ordered. A pleasant-smelling balm made with a blend of natural ingredients like organic green tea and jojoba seed [&hellip

My sister’s co-worker is pregnant, and even though the baby shower is months away, she is already researching gift ideas. I don’t know about you, but when I received new baby presents, the personal, yet practical were the most memorable. Bibs rolled into lollipops were a delectable treat (little did I know  just how many I would go through before the next load of laundry!). Diapers fashioned into cakes elicited “oh’s” and “ah’s” from my shower guests, disguising their usefulness as the top nursery necessity. And if there was one thing I remember appreciating from the moment I made my baby’s first diaper change, it was being armed with a tub of bathtime basics: baby shampoo, baby wash, lotion and diaper rash ointment. Seven years [&hellip

I’m a huge fan of kid products that serve more than one purpose: wipes for diaper changes and spot-cleaning, sunscreen with bug repellent…the list goes on. And when bathtime rolls around, having one less bottle of bubbles in our already-overcrowded bath caddy makes an otherwise nutty time of day a little more manageable. For the multitasking mama comes Philip Kingsley Baby Shampoo and Body Wash. The first product in a new line of baby care items named for the Hair Doctor himself, this extra-gentle formula contains a chamomile extract to soothe tender scalps and mild conditioning ingredients to prevent tangled tresses. Plus, it’s paraben (chemical)-free and has a non-allergen fragrance for sensitive, little noses. We love that PK Baby comes in a generously-sized, 500-ml pump [&hellip

There’s just no getting around it: with the onset of hazy, hot and humid weather, I’m back to bathing my girls nearly every night–and that means more laundry for Mommy! When I take one look at my 7-year-old’s face after she steps off the school bus, her hair matted to her forehead and her cheeks as red as garden tomatoes, I can’t help but feel like a bath is the greatest cure-all to a hectic day. (And let’s not even get started on my preschooler whose dirty, grass-stained knees alone deserve a good scrubbing…) Since my date with the washing machine is more like  a permanent relationship (sigh), I figure I should at least be washing towels that get the job done: keep my kids [&hellip

When you’re 9 months’ pregnant and caring for an older child, trying to bathe your kid can be a truly agonizing experience. I remember not so long ago how much I dreaded bath night for fear that once I was down on m knees, scrubbing away, I wasn’t so certain I’d be able to get back up properly. Little did I know how that level of discomfort would intensify after I gave birth…via a surprise C-section. Suddenly, bathing one kid seemed like a walk in the park as compared to managing a squirmy, crying infant while keeping an eye on a soaped-up preschooler. The Baby Diego is an ideal solution for handling the baby bath side of that equation. A century-old trend in Spain and [&hellip

There’s nothing I like more than a nice, long soak in the tub after a long, hard day. (Well, I can think of a few more things, but let’s keep things clean–literally!) In our old house, we had a claw footed tub that was the perfect place to wash away the day’s cares. And that was B.K. (before kids). Today, I’m lucky if I can manage a nightly shower without falling asleep. Perhaps my association with tub time as being “quiet time” dates back to when I was little. I fondly remember that  the bath was the ticket to all our childhood woes: temper tantrums (although I was told I was an angel with few bad moments), nasty head colds and, in the teen years, [&hellip

Today, we said goodbye to being a baby and hello to the world of big girls. And it was all because of a raincoat. Before heading out to drive my almost 3-year-old to preschool this morning, we were greeted with a round of April showers and so that meant scouring the closet for a hooded jacket. I came across a hand-me-down polka dot slicker in size 3T and considered it. Surely she’s too little to fit this already, I mused. But because I have a clotheshorse in the making and lo and behold, it fit perfectly. As my daughter paraded around the room in her new gear, oblivious to my surprise, it hit me hard just how fleeting those days of wearing onesies and footed [&hellip

When my husband and I took our young daughters on our annual summer vacation, there wasn’t a single piece of baby gear that we left behind: portable high chair, Pack ‘n Play, stroller, ExerSaucer…we were a regular traveling circus of kiddie equipment. There was, however, one item we just couldn’t bring along, and one that caused me more anxiety than it should have. Trying to bathe a young baby in a standard bath is like trying to dress a cat in doll clothes: cute idea, but they just don’t fit right. Keeping my little one upright with one slippery hand became a Herculean feat that I didn’t care to repeat day after day. Believe me when I say this was no vacation at the beach! [&hellip

A freshly scrubbed child is my idea of banishing those bad-day blues. Changed too many stinky diapers? Cleaned up spit-up from the cat (again)? You and your nose deserve an aromatherapy treat before the day is out. And since kids can’t wash themselves (not yet anyway), I love to use bath products that make them smell like a bed of roses. After all, if I’m going to do the scrubbing, I might as well enjoy the experience. My True Nature’s line of kiddie bath products are so delightful, I actually look forward to tubby time. The 2-in-1 shampoo and bath wash is made from organic ingredients and works on even the most delicate skin. The cute characters on the bottles and the telltale names (Stinky [&hellip
