Today was my birthday (my 29th, of course), and yes, even Mama Walnut was treated to a day that was all her own. After an afternoon at the beach with a good book in hand, my family treated me to a homemade red velvet birthday cake, an unexpected delight. But perhaps one of the greatest surprises was from my 9-year-old daughter who decided to wear a dress in my honor. And not just any dress, mind you. One that would be the envy of any fashion-conscious tween, or so I told her. You see this is one girl who does not enjoy skirts, dresses, frilly blouses or anything remotely feminine. While she’s not exactly a tomboy, this gal just doesn’t care for clothes. Some might say I’m lucky, that I won’t have to worry about her hitting me up for a new pair of Uggs anytime soon. Lucky for me, she adored this latest getup, and considering the designer, how could she not? It’s part of the fall collection of girls’ clothes from Isaac Mizrahi New York, which launched this month and features pieces ranging from . Just in time for back-to-school, this adorable black-and-white polka dot shirt dress is easy- breezy for that first day of classes when the weather is still mild, but you’d like your kid’s attire to go beyond summertime shorts and a tunic. We also checked out other pieces in the fall line, including pull-on pants (great for gym class) and a sequined sweatshirt (which glams up jeans or leggings). While my novice fashionista still has time to cultivate her appreciation for designer duds, I remain hopeful. Happy back-to-school shopping, everyone.
In a Nutshell: Hip and happening, the Isaac Mizrahi New York line will take girls to the head of the class this September.
